OnePlus does not abandon its developer community

OnePlus does not abandon its developer community

Some developers have recently announced the end of the OnePlus developer program for developers to get a test smartphone. This is only temporary according to a spokesman for the firm.

Scandal in the small community of developers of alternative ROMs, kernels and other hacks: OnePlus would have ended its program to send - free - smartphones to the most active developers. Would not OnePlus need this segment of the population to sell its products? Not really.

" The ROM scene is probably going to be fucked up," " It's a shame," " I can not wait to see how the 6T forum will turn LOL." Some big names in the Android hack did not hesitate to communicate on Twitter their irritation about the end of this program. It must be said that OnePlus has always cared for its community, and even more one that can extend the life of its terminals.

Moreover, as recalled by XDA, a developer has discovered a security breach that affects many Android smartphones trying to correct a bug on its OnePlus 6 received from the brand.

OnePlus is not a bad guy
But does this decision deserve this surge of contempt? Apart from the fact that OnePlus has of course no obligation and that few manufacturers can claim to have distributed as many devices, the brand officially communicated on the game through XDA:

Our apologies, we have not been as clear as we could have been. We have temporarily reduced our program for developers to try to make it better. We will update the selection criteria and communication channels with the developers of our program for better cooperation.

We will restart the program and select the developers according to new criteria. We work to provide the best possible support for community development on OnePlus devices. So let's wait and see what the new form of this program will look like, hoping that it will not be too long and that the OnePlus 7 ( or the 5G model ) will not be negatively impacted.
