OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. As announced by teasers, OnePlus has detailed its partnership with the McLaren car brand. A partnership whose first fruit is a customized version of the OnePlus 6T. A customization that is not only cosmetic in the face.
As expected, OnePlus today unveiled a version of the OnePlus 6T made in partnership with McLaren. His name: the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition, simply. This launch, announced two weeks ago, is the first concretisation of the partnership that OnePlus has signed with McLaren. A partnership that affects both the team, McLaren Racing, and the manufacturer, McLaren Automotive. We talked about this partnership when we published a press release about it at the end of November.
The rumors that followed the announcement of this partnership indicated that this new version of the OnePlus 6T would not be a cosmetic customization. They claimed that this OnePlus 6T would be provided with 2GB of additional RAM vis-à-vis the best current configuration of the phone. That is 10 GB of RAM. And they were not wrong: because there is actually more RAM in this OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. Is this the only change? No.
There is a second one. It concerns fast charging. You know that OnePlus has developed its own fast charging technology called Dash Charge. It evolves to become Warp Charge (a name that had already been seen in leaks). Coupled with a 30-watt fast charger (a copy is sold in the box), the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition would be able to recharge at 50% in just 20 minutes. The start-up does not confirm if the classic OnePlus 6T is (or will be) compatible with this charger.
Dressed in tribute
Last change, more cosmetic this one: the OnePlus 6T McLaren adopts a new design. Under the mineral glass of the hull is a textured material reminiscent of carbon fiber (much used in cars). On the borders, you find the color "orange papaya" symbolic of the car team. And the claw of the latter is visible at the bottom of the mineral glass that dresses the back. Finally, a software overlay has been added to Android.
For the rest, the OnePlus 6T McLaren retains the technical specifications of the flagship killer standard edition: 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED screen with notch, Snapdragon 845, double 16 + 16 megapixel photo sensor, 16-megapixel webcam at the same time. before, fingerprint reader in the screen and unsurprising 256GB of storage (the highest landing of the OnePlus 6T).
A clear increase price
The price on the other hand is rather surprising, since it is fixed at 709 euros. First, it is much higher than the OnePlus 6T 8 + 256 GB (639 euros for recall). Gradually, OnePlus is getting closer to the prices of the phones that the start-up has taken a pleasure to tease during these first years. Then, it is 20 euros more expensive in France than elsewhere in Europe. The reason? In our opinion, this is the private copying tax.
